English Summer School for Children in Cambridge

International Junior English Summer Camp in Cambridge is based on the Abbey College campus located on the southern edge of Cambridge's city centre and only a 25 minute walk from the city's historic heart. Students from 12 to 17 years old have a unique opportunity to live and study at one of the best independent sixth form colleges in the United Kingdom. We offer residential and day camp programs. We can also accept 9 to 11 year olds, but they must be accompanied by an older sibling.

Program Overview

English classes and residential accommodation take place on campus of the Abbey College Cambridge offering the world class facilities and accommodation of an excellent standard. Combined with an exciting activity program, our International English Summer camp allows your children to improve their English language skills and get a classical Cambridge University experience.

The Cambridge programme takes place within a closed campus, which is ideally suited to young learners. The bright classrooms are fully equipped with the latest interactive technology and an on-site dining hall provides a range of freshly cooked meals. The fully enclosed accommodation block is located just across the road from the main campus building making this residential course the ideal option for our younger students who will flourish in this highly protective environment.

English Language Program details:

  • Intensive course with 20 lessons (50 minutes each) per week
  • Small multi-national classes, maximum 16 students per class
  • 6 levels: beginner to advanced
  • Qualified English teachers with many years of experience in teaching English to young learners
  • All textbooks and learning materials included
  • End of course Certificates and Progress Reports

Our English Language Program includes five levels from elementary to advanced and students take a placement test on the first day to ensure they are in an appropriate level. Every two weeks, students have a progress test meet with teachers individually to review their progress. At the end of the course students receive a certificate as a record of their English language studies.

Our excellent teachers are all native English speakers and university graduates with TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificates. Teachers use a communicative approach to teaching the language and lessons may include project work, videos, games and access to our wide variety of modern English teaching resources.

English lessons will also include preparation for excursions and social activities, to help your children continue their English learning outside of the classroom.

Full-board Residential Accommodation:

All students are accommodated in single rooms with private bathrooms. The accommodation is in a modern residence. The accommodation is very safe, with our staff staying on-site, as well as the residence's own night-time security.

Our welfare and support staff are on site at all times - 24 hours a day - should your children need any help while they with us. 24 hour emergency contact phone number for students and parents is also avaialble.

Supervision of Students

Supervision of students is an important issue. We offer lots of individual care and attention to each student. Our welfare and support staff are on site at all times - 24 hours a day. We have a 24 hour emergency contact phone number for students and parents.

The following levels of supervision are provided.

At the Residence

Staff are always on duty in the evening and in the residence at night. In addition there is 24 hour security. During the evening and night time students are strictly prohibited from leaving the residence unsupervised.

Staff to student ratios are strictly enforced and students are double checked on and off buses. During excursions, free time is often given for the students to explore a designated area, e.g. a shopping area. Students can do this in small groups unsupervised but they are told the time and place to meet and also where staff will be during their free time.

Any absence from class is immediately reported to the Camp Manager or Director of Studies and investigated.

Other Necessary Information

All meals are provided in large, comfortable cafeterias on campus, except on excursions when a packed-lunch is given to all students. Wholesome and varied food is served and special dietary requirements can be catered for. Please advise us at the time of enrolment if a student has any special dietary requirements.

Laundry facilities are available at the residence halls where students are accommodated. Bed linen and towels are changed once a week, but no other laundry is included in the course fees. If students wish to wash clothes during their stay, they will be responsible for doing so.

A 24-hour emergency telephone number will be given in writing to students. All students will be issued with an identity card, which explains what action is to be followed in the event of an emergency or other difficulty. Students will be told to carry this card at all times.

All students must provide an emergency contact number to the staff on their first day. This should normally be the number of a parent/ guardian.
